Walk in his Paths
Read Micah 4:1-5
Devotional by Helen Rogers
Here we are once again celebrating Advent. In worship, we are preparing our hearts and minds for the coming of the Christ Child. We are listening to our ministers and teachers tell of God’s promise of the coming Savior. We are listening to, as well as singing, hymns and carols that remind us of the Bible stories that we have heard since childhood. This is the time of anticipation and preparation as the church begins its liturgical calendar.
Anticipation and preparation seem to be the theme of Micah 4: 1-5. Micah is telling God’s people what to expect in the “last days.” He tells us that God’s house will be paramount and that people from many nations will come to learn of him and how to walk in his ways. God has shown us through Jesus’ life the path each of us needs to take in order to walk God’s path. Even now we anticipate the time when we will be with God and his Son Jesus. Our preparations are through Bible study, worship and prayer. We are also showing others through our words and actions what it means to walk in God’s paths. Love, kindness, patience, justice, fairness, and tolerance shown to all people demonstrate to others that we are indeed people of God who want to share his benevolence and mercy. In this season of Advent, may we all walk the paths shown to us through the life of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Prayer Heavenly Father, you sent your son, Jesus, to show us your ways and that through him we might be saved. May we walk in your ways not only during this special season but all the days of our lives. AMEN.
