Pastor John H. Stanley
John Stanley is Minister--Visitation of First Presbyterian, Gastonia, NC. He is a second career pastor. After completing a twenty-two-year career with PSNC Energy in Marketing and Community Relations, John was graduated from the Commissioned Pastor School, and completed the Academy of Reformed Theology (Union-Charlotte). He served pastor of Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) for ten years.
Concurrent with his role at Robinson Presbyterian, John was Chaplain of McLean Funeral Directors, where he officiated memorial services and funerals for non-churched families.
Following the death of their only child, a 16-year-old daughter, John and Rose Stanley co-founded the Gastonia Chapter of The Compassionate Friends. John served a four-year term on the National Board of TCF. He has presented workshops at ten national conferences, and he has presented at several In Loving Memory Conferences (parents with no surviving children).
Active and involved in community life, John was Chairman of the Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce, and he has served as Interim President/CEO, of the Gaston Chamber. Also, he has served on the Board of Gaston County Economic Development Commission. He is a Paul Harris Fellow and Past President, Gastonia East Rotary Club. John has been named Citizen of the Year by the Gastonia Civitan Club, and he has received the ALCO Community Service Award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE).
He is Past Master of Gastonia Masonic Lodge, a member of the Gastonia York Rite Bodies, and a 33rd degree, Scottish Rite Mason. He is a Past Potentate (Chief Executive Officer) of Oasis Shriners, Charlotte, where he now serves as Chaplain. Also, in the fiscal year, 2012-13, he served as Chaplain of Shriners International.
John and his wife Rose Duke Stanley reside in Gastonia, NC where she is a past President of the Hamlet Junior Woman’s Club, Past President of Four Seasons Garden Club (Gastonia), active in UC Book Club, and she is an ordained Deacon in First Presbyterian Church, Gastonia.
