Other mINISTRIES
At First Presbyterian Church, we understand the importance of community and Christian Fellowship. In addition to our Wednesday night and Sunday morning programming, we offer various small group and exploratory activities.
Faith and Fiction
Faith and Fiction will meet again on Sunday, June 4, at 5:00pm at Covenant Village in the Card Room. We will be discussing In An Instant Suzanne Redfearn. Our hostesses will be Pat Sudderth and Lenise Melton.
Faith and Fiction is a book discussion group that meets on the first Sunday of each month to discuss works of fiction and their connection to our faith. (Sometimes our discussion includes a glass of wine!) Books are suggested and then agreed upon by the members. The church will provide a copy of the book to each member for $5. But members are also welcome to purchase a copy on their own digitally. |

Prayer beads Small Group

The Prayer Beads small group meets once a month with the purpose of enjoying fellowship while making bead products to be shared with others. The group creates bracelets, bookmarks, necklaces, and key-chains that are later shared with our shut-ins, nursing homes, children, women's shelters, and many friends. Members of this group enjoy the laughter and fellowship they share, and always look forward to their time together. The Prayer Bead small group shares a close, supportive relationship, and is always happy to welcome new members. No previous skill or experience required!
Due to COVID-19, the Prayer Beads small group is not currently meeting, but plans to begin meeting again soon.

Roadrunner's Ministry

The Roadrunners' Ministry allows church members and friends to go on monthly excursions to visit museums, landmarks, and restaurants. This ministry hopes to resume once travel conditions improve.
Social Justice Small Group
The Social Justice small group works to identify areas in Gastonia of concern in regard to hunger and nutrition, literacy and education, and racial justice. Specifically, the group identified the need for promoting literacy of preschool Children as a primary issue of importance and looked for a partner group that would allow members to work with parents. More recently, the group began exploring the presence of God in our world and readings in racial and social justice. This includes reading into the life of Howard Thurman, an important mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr.
Due to COVID-19, this group is not currently meeting, but hopes to begin meeting again in the near future.

Ted Talk Small Group

The TED Talk small group meets on the first Tuesday of each month for dinner, devotion, and a TED talk selected by one of its members. This atmosphere allows for lively discussion and social time together. Members of the group work to support each other in happy times and sad times. The group also chooses one mission project to support each year. Projects have included providing necessities and personal items for students at Sherwood Elementary School, providing meals for youth, and preparing and serving meals for Wednesday Night Alive!
Due to COVID-19, the TED Talk small group has been unable to meet, but hopes to reconvene in the future.
