About Us

Working at a Presbyterian Church is more than a job; it’s a calling to serve within a community of faith that values worship, compassion, and shared purpose. As a member of the church staff, you become part of a team dedicated to nurturing spiritual growth, supporting meaningful ministries, and helping the congregation live out its mission in everyday life. Each day offers the opportunity to connect people to God’s love, to one another, and to the broader community, all while working in an environment rooted in grace, collaboration, and hope.

Faith. Community. Purpose.

We welcome people from all walks of life to grow in faith, find connection, and live with purpose.

Honoring Life and Sharing Hope

At First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia, we offer a sacred space for grieving, remembering, and celebrating the hope we have in Christ. Whether you’re a member or connected through a loved one, we are here to support you with compassion and care.

What We Offer:

  • Funeral or memorial services led by one of our pastors

  • Sanctuary, chapel, or columbarium service options

  • Music coordination and support from our Director of Music

  • Pastoral care before, during, and after the service

  • Reception space (as available)

  • Access to our church columbarium

First Presbyterian Church offers a ministry of love and hope to all who grieve. Christians do not bear bereavement in isolation but are sustained by the power of the Holy Spirit and the community of faith. Because it is difficult under emotional stress to plan wisely, members should discuss and plan in advance arrangements necessary at the time of death.

For information on memorial and funeral services, please email Daniel J. Commerford, Senior Minister.

The Columbarium and Garden, located outside the Sanctuary on the west end, was dedicated January 1989. For information about inurnment at First Presbyterian Church, please email the church office.

What We Believe

As followers of Jesus, we come together across all ages to learn from God’s word, worship with joy, care for our neighbors, grow in faith, and work for a more just and peaceful world. We believe God’s grace is meant to be shared—and we’re here to share it with everyone.
